For nearly 130 years, the waterworks supplied the people of Augsburg with pure drinking water from the city forest. As it was the first waterworks in the world to enable a water supply system without water towers, it became known as a temple of technology. A sophisticated pumping system connected to pressure air tanks, developed by the Augsburg Machine Factory, delivered the water directly to households.
